What is a cache?

  • A high speed memory is placed in between central processing unit (CPU) and the main memory to operate at the speed of CPU, which is termed as cache memory. 
  • Pronounced cash, a special high-speed storage mechanism. Cache can be either a reserved section of main memory or an independent high-speed storage device.
