What is Fiber Optics?

Fiber optic is the fastest transmission media. It is a cable which is made of a light-conducting glass or plastic core surrounded by more glass, called cladding, and a tough outer sheath. A fiber-optic cable consists of a bundle of glass threads. Fiber optic cables use light pulses instead of electric signals for transmitting data.
  • This is a cable made up of super-thin filaments of glass or other transparent materials that can carry beams of light. Since the data are transmitted in the form of light, the signals do not become weak in the fiber optic cable. Due to these all features fiber optic cables are used for transmitting data over long distances.
  • The standard connectors used in fiber optic are SC and ST.
