What is HTML?

HTML was introduced by Tim Berners-Lee in 1990.
HTML (HyperText Markup Language) is the coding language for the Internet. It allows internet users to create web pages that contain text, graphics, pictures, images, sound, video, clips and interrelated hypertext links to other resources in a web page.

  • So HTML is a markup language.
  • A markup language is a set of markup tags.
  • The tags describe document content.
  • HTML documents contain HTML tags and plain text.
  • HTML documents are also called web pages.
