What is Hub?

Network Hub is a networking device that contains multiple ports which is used to connects multiple computers or network devices to form a single network segment. Hub is used to receive incoming data and distribute them to all the devices connected to its ports.
  • As hubs repeat everything they receive and can be used to extend the network, this can result in a lot of unnecessary traffic being sent to all devices on the network.
Hub are of two types:
  1. Active Hub
    • The hub that receives the signals and can regenerate or amplify the signal and distribute them to the network segment is Active Hub.
  2. Passive Hub.
    • The hub that receives the signals and just distribute them to the network segment is Passive Hub.
