What is Coaxial Cable?

  • It is a type of cable that has an inner conductor surrounded by a tubular insulating layer then surrounded by a tubular conducting shield. It is primarily used by cable TV companies between the community antenna and user homes and businesses and is also widely used for computer networks, such as Ethernet.
  • The shield minimizes electrical and radio frequency interface. So it is much less susceptible to interference and can carry much more data.
  • BNC (British Naval Connectors) are crimped onto the cable for connectivity.
